Sugar Ridge Church was organized in 1883 by a small number of families that had moved into the area from Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois and were wishing to share the same faith. They met in homes, barns, one room school, or outside.
Ten years later the nine charter members had been joined by a few other families and they raised money to purchase the current property and made plans to build a church. The acreage was covered with Maple Trees and therefore the name Sugar Ridge was decided upon. The church was dedicated in 1894.
Fast forward 118 years and approximately 6000 worship services, many weddings, funerals, baptisms, love feasts, and who knows how many pot-luck meals, you come to the dedication on May 5, 2001 of the current church building located on the same acreage. The decision to build new was predicated on the need for wheel chair accommodations. Worship services, weddings, funerals, and pot-luck meals continue today 140 years after Sugar Ridge was organized.
Sugar Ridge Church is located approximately 10 miles east of Ludington, MI which is on the shore of Lake Michigan with its beautiful beach and sunsets, along with a Maritime Museum, Lighthouse, the SS Badger, and the Ludington State Park.
